MATCH REPORT

A Fantastic nights racing at Plough Lane Tonight, both teams were without a heat leader, Jason Prynne from the GMB Dons and Joe Cook from the Oxford Kids. Both team managers decided to bring up their number 8s into the team instead of using the rider replacement rule.

There was some fantastic racing from both sides tonight and both teams deserved to win.

Heat 1 saw Ricky Scarboro come out for Joe Cook, Ricky raced out to win the race ahead of Wayne Barrett and GMB Dons new signing Peter Collyer, Carl Downs fell on the 2nd bend of the last lap.

Heat 2 then saw the GMB Dons go in front by 2 points as Andre Cross and Chris Hunt combined their skills in gaining a 4-2 over Chris Johnson and Benjamin Barker. Andre Lead this race for best part of the race.

The next too races were drawn, with heat 5 saw the Oxford Kids gain their 1st 5-1 of the night as Ricky Scarboro and Carl Downs raced together after Gavin Hedge went wide.

Heat 6 saw a drawn heat as Wayne Barrett rode a great race over Chris Mills and Chris Johnson.

Heat 7 saw the GMB Dons claw back 2 points when Danny Giffard rode a great line around the track, and Andre Cross coming in 3rd in an impressive race over Tim Warns.

Heat 8 Saw some great team riding by the GMB Dons as Chris Hunt followed Peter Collyer home to keep the scores level.

The Oxford Kids then saw a chance to go infront when in heat 9 Gavin Hedge was sandwiched between the two Oxford Kids (Chris Mills and Benjamin Barker) and fell, the ref decided that it was first bend bunching and that all 4 riders were to race in the re run. In the re run of heat 9 it saw Gavin Hedge fall again when in the middle of the Oxford pair, this time ref decided to let it go, therefore enabling Chris Mills and Benjamin Barker to take a 5-1 over the GMB Dons other new signing Jamie Clement.

Both Wayne Barrett and Andre Cross got out the gate in heat 10, however Andre was unable to keep onto 2nd behind wayne as he had the impressive Darren Andrews and Chris Johnson up on his back wheel.

The next race (heat 11) saw a fantastic team spirit for the GMB Dons as Andre Cross showed his skills and talents and followed the ever improving Danny Giffard home securing the 1st 5-1 for the Dons, and once again bring the scores level at 33 for each team.

Chris Hunt fell in race 12 as he had no where to go as Chris Johnson locked up. In the re run Gavin Hedge got out the gate a raced to a win, ensuring the the points were shared. It was explained after that Gavin Hedge was riding with a knee brace on due to his knee keep popping out of place.

Heat 13 saw Danny Giffard excluded after he did a complete spin on his bike, landing on his feet and his bike on the floor. This gave the Oxford kids a 4-2 going into heat 14.

Heat 14 Impressive 15 year old Benjamin Barker of the Oxford won this race, leaving some great team riding by Andre Cross who helped Jamie Clement home by keeping Tim Warns at the back.

What a fantastic heat 15. This race sawsome fantastic racing by all riders in the race, both the GMB Dons got out of the gate, leading the race was Wayne Barrett, Chris Mills made a move on Danny Giffard and passed him on about the 2nd lap, however Chris slightly overcooked the last bend and this allowed Danny Giffard to shoot through and gain the GMB Dons a 5-1 insuring Victory on the night.

What an evening, it was great to see such a buzz around the staduim on Wednesday night. The curtains on the GMB Dons new season with the Ronnie Moore Cup. All the 16 riders showed determination in this meeting. The meeting started of with a minutes silence for Ken Moss who died recently.

Ronnie Moore then delighted the crowd with a lap on around the plough lane track on a bike.

It was also with great pleasure to see Barry Briggs at Plough Lane as well on wednesday night.

All 16 riders rode there hearts out for the Ronnie Moore cup. A few riders caught my eye as being hot prospect. Darren Mallett of Rye House stormed to a fantastic 15 Point max from five rides. A very impresssive rider who shot to the gate and the only rider to really challenge him for the top position was GMB Don Danny Giffard. Both Danny and Darren were on 9 points before the interval it was the crucial heat 13 where both riders met and Darren just got the better of Danny that Danny chances started to slip away.

Another impressive performance by Rye House's new boy Joel Parsons definatley a young rider to keep an eye on, he adapted exceptional well to the Plough Lane track.

Great performance by all the GMB Dons who took part in this fantastic meeting. Congratulations to both Wayne Barrett and Chris Schramm making it a good night for the Dons climing 2nd and 3rd on the rostrum.

Danny Giffard and Gavin Hedge both rode well, and showed us that they have been a fantastic signing for the GMB Dons.

Andre suffered a couple of knocks however rode his heart out and remounted his bike each time he came off he had a very impressive heat 15 where he beat Chris Hunt and Jon Stevens with Danny Hughes falling. Heat 15 showed a great partnership of riding between Andre and Chris they are going to be quiet a impressive pairing at reserve.

Well Done to all the management, riders, supporters on a great night of entertainment. Dingle produced a fantastic track and showed his skills and knowledge in the pits. A Good night had by all.

PRESS AND PRACTICE DAY REPORT

BY WEBSITE EDITOR BECKY

WOW what an afternoon a good time was had by all. With the sunshine blazing away as the GMB Dons Theme tune of Blazeaway was played, as the 2003 Dons took to the track. A fantastic turn out of supporters saw what was a great start to what is hoped to be a great season for the GMB Dons. With the press and practice day taking place on a sunday the crowd was fairly big as the sunday market was running in the stadium car park.

The afternoon took shape by having all the press parts of the day taking place before supporters were let in. The riders were brought out onto the track by the sound of Blazeaway. The riders were then able to practice in pairs tell 3pm when the Tommy Jansson Time Trials took place.

Gavin Hedge Won the Tommy Jansson Time Trials in a time of 34 sec.

Each rider done two laps of the track which was timed, and the 4 riders with the fastest time went into a 4 man race for 4 laps. Gavin Hedge came out on top form he was the fastest in the time trials and then went off and won the final beating Martin Williams, Danny Giffard and Roger Dickerson.

The results of the time trials were:

Gavin Hedge 34 seconds, Martin Williams 34.34 seconds, Roger Dickerson 34.67 seconds, Danny Giffard 34.85 seconds, Andre Cross 35.6 seconds (second attempt as he fell in his first try.), Chris Hunt 35.88 seconds, Nathan Irwin, 35.94 seconds, Jon Stevens 36.96 seconds, and Daniel Berwick 38.56 seconds.

The final result was:

Gavin Hedge taking the Tommy Jansson Memorial Shield.

Martin Williams runner up, Danny Giffard 3rd and Roger Dickerson not finishing the race as he fell on the final lap.

During practicing, new signings Danny giffard and Gavin Hedge both looked in good form, along with Roger Dickerson and Chris Hunt. Andre Cross fell a couple of times in his practice runs.

The track was in a very dusty condition due to the hot weather. Absent from todays events was Wayne Barrett who had been practicing this morning but had to be back in Exeter by 5pm tonight. Chris Schramm who was riding at Peterborough. And finally Jason Prynne was absent due to his girlfriend being 8 months pregnant and was taken ill today.

That's all for now folks so blazeaway and see you all on wednesday.

There were a few Dons supporters there, the GMB Dons kept the match pretty close until the end. They pulled back an 8 point deficit to within 2 points of the Fen Tigers, but a 4-2 in heat 11, and a 5-1 in heat 13 sealed the victory for Mildenhall.

A much closer match than I thought it was going to be, with some good racing at times. For the Fen Tigers, Scott James was superb, with good support from Wayne Broadhurst. James Brundle had a very poor night, lets hope he goes better on Kings Lynns opening night on Tuesday! For the Dons, Daniel Gifford worked hard for his paid 12, and was well supported by Wayne Barrett and Jason Prynne. Gavin Hedge had some "Tomas Gollob" moments, when he bounced both wheels off the fence in heat 5, and managed to stay on the bike.

Many Thanks to Dave Lomas of Norwich for the use of your match report.SON.
