A fantastic turn out of supporters saw what was a great start to what is hoped to be a great season for the GMB Dons. That's all for now folks so blazeaway and see you all on wednesday. Becky GMB Dons make promising start to 2003 season Wimbledon GMB Dons started their 2003 camapign in promising style by pushing Mildenhall all the way in a thriller last Saturday night at West Row. On a bitterly cold evening, the large travelling support from South-west London saw the GMB Dons fight for every point before being eventually outpaced 48-42 by the current Conference Trophy holders. New signing Danny Giffard made an instant impression on his debut with eleven paid twelve and was well supported by his team mates, who with more luck could have returned to Plough Lane with a share of the spoils. Costly engine failures for Giffard, Wayne Barrett and skipper Chris Hunt gifted a number of points to the Fen Tigers as the two well matched teams laid on a feast of thrilling racing. Team Boss Dingle Brown pronounced himself pleased with the effort shown bythe entire team. "I'm very optimistic for the season ahead based upon this performance. Our heat leaders rode very well and the team as a whole were full of determination." It's all systems go at Plough Lane this coming week as the 2003 Press & Practice Day on Sunday 23rd March is swiftly followed by the inaugural Ronnie Moore Cup three nights later on Wednesday 26th March. A strong Conference League line up is being put together for the 16 rider,20 heat opening meeting with Wimbledon legend Ronnie Moore in attendance to meet the supporters and make the presentations. The Board of Directors have purchased a magnificent trophy which will be presented to the winner on the night (although handed straight back!), and this is a fitting testimony to the great Dons legend and double World Champion. Fans are again reminded that they will be admitted free to the Press & Practice Day with doors opening at 1.30pm for a 2pm start.
